Read a brief history of the tradition of excellence in otology which forms the philosophical cornerstone of the Shea Center For Ears Hearing & Balance. The Center is dedicated to the memory of John Joseph Shea, Sr., M.D. (1898-1952). His reputation for honesty, integrity, patient dedication and excellence in the field of otolaryngology forms the framework upon which his grandson, John J. Shea III, M.D., has created this new practice entity. The Shea Center For Ears Hearing & Balance stands alone in the Mid-South as a practice uniquely poised to carry forward John J. Shea, Sr., M.D.'s tradition of excellence into the twenty-first century.

Focus On Otology ONLY
The Shea Center For Ears Hearing & Balance stands alone in the south-central U.S. as a state-of-the-art resource dedicated SOLELY to diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the ear and related structures. While Center patients are encouraged to bring all relevant documents and CT/MRI films with them for their initial consultation with Dr. John Shea III, the policy of the Center is to bring to bear time-tested techniques of history-taking and a thorough neurovestibular evaluation in our ultra-modern lab with a careful otomicroscopic examination of the ear and related neural structures. The result: a meaningful (and honest) working diagnosis, the treatment of which routinely results in rsatisfying resolution of symptoms for the 'difficult ear'.

Since its inception less than 18 months ago, the Center has been host to over 2500 new patients. After forging powerful new ties with outpatient surgery facilities at Baptist Memorial Hospital (Central) and Germantown Community Hospital (Methodist East), Dr. Shea III has added over 350 major and 120 minor operations to the thousands of successful operations he has performed over the past 15 years on patients ranging from 9 months to 91 years of age. Dr. John Shea III brings a longstanding record of excellence in medical and surgical approaches to cost-effective resolution of difficult ear and balance problems.
